    Since 1981, the Himalaya Tandoori Restaurant has proudly provided service to the local community. In that time we have maintained only the highest quality of food and service developing a reputation that means every day we welcome diners from all over Edinburgh.

    The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere all of its own and recreates the warm, relaxing ambience you would experience eating in a small hill-station in the foothills of the Himalayas.

    This strong ethos and focus on quality means that we have grown to be a very popular Indian restaurant.  We are situated within walking distance of Edinburgh city centre and are well served by public transport and car parking facilities are excellent.

    The Indian peninsula, from the “Roof of the World” to the Deccan plateau and the great plains of the Indus and Ganges, is a land of many contrasts, not least in the variety of its cultures and associated ways of preparing food flavoured with an outstanding choice of herbs and spices.

    The cuisine of the Himalaya Tandoori Restaurant reflects this diversity of taste culture and celebration of flavour.  Our dishes range from the green herb lamb of Bombay to the Chana Gosht of the Punjab, the King Prawn Jalfrezie of Bengal to the Murgh Makhani of Kashmir.

    All our dishes are created from the finest fresh produce and freshly ground spices. Blending these flavours to produce mouth watering treats for both eye and palate is our forte.

    For the stranger to the tastes of this exotic land, you may confidently place yourself in the care of our knowledgeable staff. They will be happy to guide you through the menu, ensuring that your meal is both an enjoyable and memorable one. Our ever courteous, cheerful and friendly staff; are dedicated to the philosophy that a guest does us an honour when he visits us for a second time.

    Indian food doesn’t need to be fiery and pungent. For the discerning diner may we recommend a kurmah. Created for the Moghuls, the use of fragrant and aromatic spices, and its garlic, ginger creamy sauce make, this a mild smooth dish for the connoisseur.

    Vegetarians are equally welcome guests, and our chefs offer a selection of dishes for their pleasure. For a rewarding culinary experience we would suggest our Sabzi Sambar.
